STYLE GURU BIO: Megan Atkins

Hey, what’s up? Hello! My name is Megan Atkins and I am a freshman at Iowa State University, studying Journalism and Fashion Merchandising. As an Iowa native, I’m very proud of my corn field roots and love my new life as a Cyclone. At ISU, I am a member of Sigma Kappa, involved in the fashion club: MODA and write for the Self/Style section in the Iowa State Daily. In my free time, I love to read, drink coffee, (binge) watch Netflix, spend time with friends and, unfortunately for my bank account, shop online.

My passion for fashion began at the age of five when I would spend hours styling my Barbies and American Girl Dolls. While the glitz and glam is a huge part of why I love fashion, the fact that it reflects who we are is my favorite part.

My style is classic and feminine. However, I occasionally like adding an edgy twist, whether it’s to my black biker jacket or pointy-toed heels. If an item is rose gold, cable knit or Rebecca Minkoff, chances are I will love it. Finishing touches to my outfits typically consist of a braided hairdo and/or neutral-colored talons (yes, they are real). Brands I’m currently coveting include Banana Republic, LOFT, Express and Alex and Ani (click here for the bracelet I’m wearing).

In five years, I see myself accepting a position at a fashion magazine and pursuing my blog, Hope & Handbags. I hope to inspire other young Fashionistas/os to embrace where they come from and never be afraid to be themselves (sorry for the clichés, but really). I’m looking forward to representing CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru!
