STYLE GURU BIO: Mary Bordelon

Hey! I’m Mary Bordelon, and I’m currently settled in Morgantown, WV, although I was born about an hour away from New Orleans, and later moved and grew up in Lewisburg, WV.

I can’t remember a time in my life where I wasn’t influenced in some way by fashion, honestly. I may not have made the best choices, but expressing individuality through how I present myself to those around has always been a major part of my life and my interests.

I’m currently enrolled at WVU for the next four years, with a major in Fashion Merchandising, and a minor in both entrepreneurship and photography. Career wise, I aspire to be a creative director for a clothing company that produces garments I would actually wear myself, as well as taking photographs for major fashion editorials—preferably French or Italian Vogue.

As far as my own personal style, I’m a big supporter of balance. I don’t like to dress like I look perfectly put together. In essence- something very Parisian. A girly dress paired with an oversized men’s blazer, or a frilly blouse with distressed vintage denim. I don’t like to lean in one direction more than the other, and I take huge inspiration from menswear. There’s something about wearing men’s clothes that almost seems to make the wearer appear eve more obviously feminine—exactly what I aim for.

Some of my personal style icons include the incredible Jane Birkin, Alexa Chung, Jeanne Damas, Leandra Medine, Caroline de Maigret, Mick Jagger, Camille Rowe, Joan Didion, Audrey Hepburn and of course, Francoise Hardy.

I hope my input to this collection of young opinions on personal style is valued, and I can’t wait to get my visual inspiration out to the masses.
