STYLE GURU BIO: Maria Colalancia

Hi Fashionistas/Fashionistos! It’s already time to start the spring semester, and that blows my mind. I can’t wait to kick off 2016, especially returning as a Style Guru for a second semester! This year is going to be filled with a lot of travel to the world’s fashion capitals, and you can only imagine how excited I am about that. Until then, I’ll be continuing to report on all things fashion at the University of South Carolina.

As many of you may have already guessed, fashion is my one true love. Majoring in Fashion Merchandising has been one of the best decisions I have ever made, and just within the past semester I’ve already learned so much more about the fashion industry in its entirety. This has not only had a huge impact on how I view and appreciate fashion, but it has greatly impacted my style. I change styles quite frequently, which is a lot of fun, although often hard on my bank account. I like to dress for the person I am when I wake up each day.  Lately, I’ve been dressing in a lot of neutrals. This hasn’t been planned necessarily, it’s just a pattern that I’ve noticed. I’m especially drawn to all-black or all-white ensembles. They’re so effortlessly chic and I think that’s great. If I had to guess, this is all stemming from my not-so-secret obsession with Kanye West and his Yeezy collections. I’ve just been really interested in neutral colors and patterns, and investing in great basics and closet staples. Not to say I don’t love color, because I do, but there’s something so great in simplicity.

In this outfit I paired my favorite vegan leather mini skirt with a black V-neck Piko shirt. I added a pair of black heeled booties, and a pair of studded statement earrings to finish off the look. You may also notice in one of my detail pictures that I accessorized with a number of rings. If you know me personally, you know that I wear those rings every single day. I don’t remember exactly where I read this, but I remember reading that a woman should have a signature perfume and a piece of jewelry they wear consistently. For some reason that always stuck with me. That being said, my look is never complete without a spritz of Chanel’s Mademoiselle perfume and my rings. My rings are kind of a part of the person that I am, and each one has a story behind it that I get to carry around with me everyday, and that’s kind of cool.

I’m looking forward to another RAD semester with CollegeFashionista!  Be sure to check back each month for a new article. And as always, go cocks!
