HI! I’m Kylee Burgess, a junior fashion merchandising major at Virginia Commonwealth University with a minor in media studies. I’m so excited to get started with my first semester as a Style Guru! As a previous photography major with a forever love of everything fashion, pursuing an internship such as CollegeFashionista seemed like the perfect way to express not only my personal style, but also the ones of those around me on my campus.
Growing up in Virginia, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in fashion, but I wasn’t exactly sure where to start. After deciding to apply to VCU as an art major, everything not only started to set into place, but my dreams also began to feel a little bit more in within reach. As a student in Richmond, VA, I found it very easy to be inspired by not only my peer’s fashion but also aspects within the city. I am currently living in New York city interning with a fashion development and learning even more about the fashion industry than I had in the past.
Being in the big city I have learned to appreciate (even more than I previously did) the essential faux fur jacket. Another thing I have fallen in love with even more is the darker tones that you see all around the city. I find myself naturally leaning towards wearing all black in the city. I love breaking up my all black outfit with a really cool vintage-looking silver buckle belt. Black booties are perfect for the city especially with ones that have a comfortable but cute heel. These have been a huge hit the past year and I have found myself wearing mine almost every day!
