STYLE GURU BIO: Kara Brown

Greetings my fabulous Fashionista friends,

My name is Kara Brown and I am beyond ecstatic to be a part of another amazing team of Style Gurus for another semester! I am currently a sophomore attending the University of Maryland, College Park pursuing a degree in communication studies.

I have always had a passion for fashion ever since I was a young girl. One of my favorite parts of the day is waking up every morning and being able to mix and match patterns, play around with different tones and tints of colors, and add on staple accessories to best show off my personality in a one-of-a-kind outfit.

With the winter season amongst us, layers have been my best friend. I decided simple was best when collaborating some of my favorite wardrobe pieces. My cream-colored sweater under my jacket gives off the illusion that I am wearing a white button-down underneath, but in reality, I’m only wearing one sweater. I bought this trendy crewneck sweater at my local Bloomingdale’s store.

On top of my sweater, I added a dark forest green J.Crew field jacket to add a pop of color to my look.  My favorite part of this jacket would have to be the bright gold buttons.  The contrast of the gold against the dark forest green allows for the jacket to make a statement without coming off as ‘too flashy.’

To complete the bottom half of my outfit, I believe that simplicity is key. So, I decided to throw on my favorite pair of American Eagle Outfitters skinny jeans and my favorite pair of boots. The brown knee high boots seen below are from Nordstrom, however, similar styles can also be purchased at stores such as Call it Spring, Zappos Online, and Steve Madden.

My accessory staples are typically the same on a day-to-day basis with the occasional statement piece. The necklace I am wearing is from J.Crew. Personally, I believe J.Crew is the top store to shop at if you’re looking for unique statement pieces, whether it’d be a necklace, a pair of earrings, or even a bangle bracelet! I also am always wearing my David Yurman rings that were a gift from my family. I love wearing them on a daily basis to add a simple touch of personality along with them serving as a constant reminder of my family always being with me while I’m away at school. My final accessory piece that I have loved incorporating into my daily looks is my J.Jill Foundation bracelet. Not only does it look good, but a purchase of a bracelet supports the J.Jill Foundation, which helps disadvantaged and homeless women become more self-sufficient. What a great cause!
