STYLE GURU BIO: Jenny (Zhenyi) Zhou

Hi! I am Jenny Zhou, a crazy K-pop fangirl and a passionate music producer with a lot of unique insights about fashion. I am currently a freshman at New York University. In this big and crazy city that is madly in love with fashion, I somehow manage to survive and even thrive with my own fashion sense.

I believe that the best fashion one should have is the one that suits them the most. Whatever suits the models of American Eagle doesn’t really suit every single person. For me, I love to wear clothes that I feel comfortable in; my normal street wear is a beret hat, leggings, booties or sneakers, coats, and a shorter top. I love to wear plain outfits with some pops of color to impress. In winter, I will always wear circular scarves to match the clothes. I feel the key concept of fashion is about emphasizing your traits; for example, I have a voluptuous body, so I will wear tight clothes to show off my curves instead of hiding them because fashion is really all about showing who you are.

K-pop is my guilty pleasure. The obsession for the K-pop group, such as Apink, Bts, and Bigbang, has inspired my fashion sense as well. I began to study the fashion trend in Korea—I studied their makeup and styling closely and started to take some of them into consideration while I did my makeup and styling. This is why I sometimes wear some trendy yet cute clothes; since I am pretty short, the cute concept suits me well. I am a Sherlock trash, think silent raves are definitely lit, and have a huge collection of perfumes and lipsticks, even though I don’t wear them that often. You can also find me at concerts and artwork displays often.

Like all the girls, I like simple tops with animals and trendy words printed on them. Hot pink is the best color for me. I do not wear accessories often, only when I go to something formal, but I do have a necklace that spells out my name on me all the time. My fashion might look like another normal street wear, but I always have something that shows the uniqueness. If you stick to who you are, you will create your own fashion as well.
