STYLE GURU BIO: Jaclyn Meredith

Hello to all of the Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Jaclyn and I am a sophomore at the Fashion Institute of Technology majoring in Fashion Merchandising Management in NYC. This is my very first semester writing for CollegeFashionista, and I couldn’t be more excited!

I have always had an urge to pursue fashion. My first fashion design class was in 2005 when I was just 12 years old and even then, I knew I had to work in the fashion industry. Shopping was never a simple errand I was required to do. Instead it was seen as an exciting chance to look for items I would be able to turn into unique looks. My mother has also been an influence for my love of clothes. She always had amazing taste and when I was little, used to dress me as if I was a child model.

New York is really the best city for a fashion enthusiast like me. It is visually stimulating and ever changing. As you walk along the crowded streets you may see a preppy girl dressed in J.Crew head to toe, but by the next avenue encounter a guy in dreadlocks wearing a thrifted bomber jacket. You never know!

My personal style varies day by day, but I generally gravitate towards very feminine looks. I think a little black dress (LBD) is a must-have for any wardrobe. This year one of my goals is to select clothing that is out of my comfort zone. I look forward to meeting many new fashionable people on campus who may inspire me to take more risks in my style. I know I will have an incredible time being a Style Guru this semester and can’t wait to share this with you all!
