STYLE GURU BIO: Isabel Gutierrez

Hello, Fashionistas/os! Spring semester is here, and I am so excited to spend it writing for CollegeFashionista for a third semester! I am in my sophomore year studying marketing and management at Tulane University and couldn’t be happier! Tulane is great year-round; however, spring semester is my favorite because New Orleans always has something going on around this time: Mardi Gras, crawfish boils, various food festivals and Jazz Fest. With these events, come amazing outfits!

My style constantly evolves; it has changed a lot, even since I started writing for CollegeFashionista last year. Last semester, I set a goal to use more color in my everyday outfits and to accessorize more. I only accomplished one of those goals, as you can probably see in the pictures above. I guess that some things are meant to change, while others are meant to stay the same. Some of my style constants are the color black, details inspired by menswear, the mix of edgy and feminine elements, and adventurous makeup.

For this fun look, I paired some basic pieces together to make an outfit that is anything but basic. This black off-the-shoulder top is very versatile and perfect for layering. I decided to wear one of my favorite articles of clothing: my leather skirt. My black leather boots helped make the outfit a little more casual, but could be swapped for some black heeled booties to dress it up.

To finish off the look, I added some bold details. I wear this white vest all the time because I love the clean lines that the leather piping creates. I accessorized with statement ear jackets, a suede tie choker, and a stack of bracelets. You can always count on me to be down to sport dramatic eyeshadow or a bold lip.

I hope that this semester I will be able to share some great street style looks that show the celebratory spirit that characterizes my favorite city, New Orleans. Thanks for checking out my bio!
