Hi there, Fashionistas! My name is Emily Schukai, and I am so excited to be a part of CollegeFashionista this fall as a Style Guru. I am a freshman at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles as a communication studies major and will potentially become a dance minor. I am very much looking forward to reporting on the style I see on campus this fall.
I am all about embracing who you are and dressing for yourself, not anyone else. Wearing what makes you feel good and comfortable can boost your confidence, creating a bigger, better you. So whether that be a dress and heels, or a T-shirt and sneakers, looking and feeling your best is so important.
My personal style varies every day based on my mood, the weather or the occasion. Fashion is more of a hobby to me, but I enjoy picking out my outfit everyday and constantly switching it up. Some days I am good with a pair of Nike shorts, sneakers and my mom’s old T-shirt from the ’90s. Other days, I am all for a cute sundress, sandals and a fabulous up-do. But my number one rule is I have to be comfortable. Here I am wearing this cross front t-shirt dress, a pair of black booties and two gold cuff earrings.
My closet palette mostly consists of the basics, like black, gray, white and denim, but here and there I add splashes of color. More recently, I even bought a mustard yellow top! I felt so adventurous the day I bought it. I also love to accessorize with jewelry. Every day you will see me with tons of bracelets on my wrists and rings on my fingers. I feel that my jewelry helps to jazz up my basic outfit.
I am from the Midwest, so I am super excited to be moving to Los Angeles, a big and diverse city. I am looking forward to spotting all the new trends firsthand, as well as the celebrity style, in hopes of incorporating them into my own wardrobe and giving my Fashionistas a full report. Some of my favorite celebrity icons are Shay Mitchell and Kendall Jenner. Both have such a calm and effortless looking day style but know how to glam-it-up for their night time extravaganzas.
In my free time, I love to watch Netflix—most recently I have been binge watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt—go to the beach, read and explore the city. Stay tuned all semester to hear about my style and the style of Los Angeles.
