STYLE GURU BIO: Emily Murray

People say that the third time is always a charm. Suitably, this my third semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru and the charm is marked in bittersweet reality that this is also the last semester of my college career. Over the years I have learned that no happily ever after is complete without a grand finale; which means that it would be remiss to conclude my journey at Michigan State University with anything short of an adventure. So if it’s true that all great fashion tells a story, I can’t wait to see what the Fashionistas/os of Spartan Nation have in store.

One essential part of embracing adventure is a sheer willingness to take chances and make moves without drawing the limit at your typical boundaries . These unexpected and spontaneous elements are important style features that I will be searching for this spring. Staying true to yourself is something that I think is very important. Reflecting who you are in your wardrobe, especially when that means taking a risk, is quite possibly the greatest style you will ever see.

Another key to tackling adventure is accepting that you may not always have a game plan, but trusting that you will undoubtedly end up exactly where you are meant to be. At the moment, I am not sure where life after college will take me. But the southern-loving, country music fan in me is crossing her fingers that life’s compass will lead me south; Nashville, possibly? Nonetheless, I incorporated southern fashion’s most signature piece in my outfit with a cozy, plaid flannel shirt. Additionally, I layered my shirt with a fur vest as a tribute to my personal style. Fur vests are one of my favorite trends to keep warm in the premature months of spring because of their unique and daring look. Final touches included a cream scarf and tan booties; neutrals that complemented the casual and bold appeals of this outfit.

No matter where life may lead, I think that some of the best lessons learned, greatest beauties and deepest loves come from all the adventures along the way. While many things are uncertain, I know one thing for sure and that is wherever I end up, a piece of my heart will always live in East Lansing. So, here’s to all the Fashionistas/os; this one goes out to an adventurous spring semester in true grand finale style.
