STYLE GURU BIO: Danielle Ruble

Hey there! My name is Danielle Ruble and I’m a senior Journalism major at James Madison University, excited for my first semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru!

I grew up in a military family so I moved around a lot when I was younger. Every new place I moved to, people had a different idea of fashion. I constantly tried to change my look to fit in with my new friends until somewhere along the way, I found out it was more fun to just be myself and work my own look. That’s still my mentality to this day.

I now call Virginia my home, splitting my time between Harrisonburg and the Hampton Roads area. The great thing about Virginia is its distinctive seasons, which makes getting ready in the morning a treat. Summers in Virginia are hot and humid, especially where I’m at. I’m close to the beach so light, breezy clothing is a must.

This summer I have two internships, one at Operation Smile and one at a local news station, so I’m going to be entering the world of professional clothing. I’m looking forward to finding fashionable ways to express myself at my new internships. I also have a new puppy and love spending time outdoors, so I’m always looking for outfits that can withstand a long day at the park, but can take me to the store or out to lunch afterward.

Basically the most important thing in choosing an outfit for me is choosing something versatile. In the summer I have a lot more flexibility with my days and the ability to say yes to spontaneous plans. I may get dressed in the morning planning on going shopping, but end the day in the same outfit at a bonfire. You just never know in the summer!

When I get dressed in the morning I usually grab a pair of solid color shorts and a flowing top. I’m a huge fan of flowing tops because I think they’re so comfy, yet they can be dressed up when need be. In the summertime, flowing tops are essential on those hot days when a tight shirt would only stick to your skin and show sweat.

I never forget the accessories! I’m a big fan of an arm chock-full of bracelets. My metal of choice is gold, especially when my outfit is earth-toned like this one. I always wear my Alex and Ani bangles and usually throw on some solid gold bangles to pair with them. I like to pick a low-key pair of earrings to let my other jewelry really stand out. I have a go-to pair of gold studs I adorn to complement my other jewelry, but not overshadow it. I love a good pair of sandals that match the colors in my outfit. In this case, I chose a pair of gold sandals from American Eagle Outfitters.

This summer, I’m looking forward to trying new looks to accompany the new adventures I’ll be embarking on!
