STYLE GURU BIO: Cori Schimko

Willkommen, friends!  My name is Cori Schimko. I am going into my sophomore year of college at the University of Central Florida as a Radio/Television major. I grew up in a small town called Tomkins Cove, New York, just 30 minutes outside of New York City.

The influence for my fashion is pulled from the depths of the mainstream goth archetypical character trends of the 1990s and early 2000s with a mix of cult movie and club kid inspiration. I have always had a morbid curiosity which propels my darker and more ominous aesthetic.

As of lately, I have been inspired by the red makeup worn by rock artists of the early to mid 2000s. The color ‘Gash’ by Urban Decay was the color of choice by members of My Chemical Romance to create a more “dead” kind of look. Since ‘Gash’ is no longer in existence, I took to Tumblr and found a very good dupe color to revive my own version of the look from Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. The dark red color with a copper undertone in the ‘Raining Men Palette’ by Hard Candy.

I mostly shop at American Apparel, Urban Outfitters, Brandy Melville, #NYLONshop, Madewell and thrift stores.

My inspiration to wear the Nathalie Du Pasquier Zeta Print T-Shirt Romper from American Apparel to embody a more androgynous silhouette. My body is not a typical shape to attempt to genderbend, however, I do like to reach away from feminine normalities. I then attempt to bring back some kawaiiness with the Girly Lace Ankle Sock from American Apparel. Of course, I can’t forget about my Platform High-Top Canvas Sneakers that I found on Ebay.

I am an artist, the world provides the inspiration, I am the canvas.
