STYLE GURU BIO: Cailyn Prins

January 4th, 2017 at 2:00am

Hi! My name is Cailyn Prins. I am a 20-year-old student who is currently enrolled in the Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics program at the University of Amsterdam. I am so excited to share with you the eclectic and individual styles of my fellow university students. I think Amsterdam has an atmosphere that fosters very unique personal taste, and this is reflected in the sartorial choices of the students I see on a day-to-day basis. As for my personal style, I would describe it as comfortable and minimal, yet trendy. I love to try new styles, and I take a lot of inspiration from my surroundings. When I’m not studying, I really enjoy staying active. I am a runner. I also do yoga, and I love to try all kinds of new workouts. I love to read, and I watch Netflix probably more than I should–but who doesn’t? I also love when I get the time to spend with my friends and my family.

Even though I study in Amsterdam, I am originally from Ontario, Canada. While visiting my family in Canada, I had to bundle up a lot to go outside! When it’s cold, I really like to use cute accessories to make my outfit less boring, such as the knit bobble hat I’m wearing. Also, I used a pair of cropped flares to highlight my cozy (and very toasty) miniature Ugg boots. I’ve had them forever, but Uggs are making a big comeback this winter, and they are especially practical in frigid winter temperatures.

During cold weather seasons, I become a coat addict. When outside, a coat is especially useful to complement an outfit, or it can even be worn as a statement piece. The coat I’m wearing is cropped, which helps show off my jeans, and the plaid feels seasonally appropriate. A cropped coat can be nice if you want to show off your pants or highlight your legs while still staying warm. Finally, when I’m outside in the winter I love to have a cute pair of mittens. The ones I’m wearing are lined with fur, which is so nice for my hands. I like to stock up on accessories in neutral colours because they are the most versatile pieces. All in all, the pieces I’m wearing in this look are both practical and cute. They are perfect for spending time outside with my friends and family.

I am very excited to be a Style Guru for spring 2017! I can’t wait to share with you the fashionable choices made by the students at the University of Amsterdam, and I hope you enjoy.
