STYLE GURU BIO: Asia Milia Ware

Hello, hello! They say three’s a charm and I am back for my third consecutive semester with CollegeFashionista. I am Asia Milia Ware, a name to get familiar with now because I can promise you in a few years you’ll see it on the top of a masthead. I am a junior Strategic Communications major and English minor at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia.

Thinking back to wearing uniforms first through eighth grade, I always knew I had a love for fashion when my uniform would become my own style. From rolling up skirts to extra accessories to fashionable shoes or purses to match, I was always adding my own twist to my uniform. Yes, that was me. Growing up in the fashion capital, New York City, I was exposed to fashion at such a young age. I used to visit my mom at her job in downtown Manhattan during my adolescent years. I would look up at businesswomen in their blazers, red bottoms and nice bags and find myself so intrigued.

After my freshman year of college, I knew I wanted to work in the fashion industry. I aspire to be the Editor-In-Chief of a magazine, but also a fashion stylist/ image consultant. I also plan to own a gym where I offer styling services, so I will be able to have both of my loves, fashion and fitness, in one location. This past semester, I’ve taken on two new titles that are leading me in the right direction of my aspirations. In October, I was named one of three ESSENCE Magazine College Ambassadors and an intern for fashion stylist, Style by D’Nicole. You can follow all of that magic on my Instagram.

My on campus style and style in general is pretty simple, yet chic. For the winter, faux fur is definitely my favorite. I look forward to wearing my colorful fur stoles. Also, I’m a winter baby, born on January 12, so I have to own every month of this season.

Since it seems that this winter is coming in slightly warmer than past ones, I am still holding on to some pieces from the warmer months. A fitted button-down is pretty much my go-to for any outfit because I feel dressy, yet casual based on what I pair it with. My peep-toe booties should have been put up a long time ago, but this weather allows me to wear them with my winter clothes, such as fur. My favorite thing to do is layer. In this ensemble, I layered my knit vest with a faux fur collar with my boyfriend blazer for a more detailed look. I usually don’t wear jeans, because I am a lover of skirts and dresses (girly, girl, I know!), but I decided to add these light-wash jeans.

I can’t wait to see what this semester brings because every semester I grow to love CollegeFashionista more. Spring semester is definitely a roller coaster of weather in Virginia, so I’ll bring you the best Fashionista/o looks from winter wonderland to spring and sporty! Let’s have a RAD semester!
