STYLE GURU BIO: Allyson Kramer

The transition from August 31st to September 1st is perhaps the most dramatic of the year. One day, you’re sipping iced tea lounging by the pool and the next you’re obsessing over cardigans and new Starbucks lattes. Or if you’re anything like me, you’re thinking of all the ways you can wear your cool leather jacket and, on a scale of one to 2011 Lady Gaga, how freaky you want your Halloween costume to be. I’m Allyson Kramer writing for my second semester here at CollegeFashionista and my style is ever evolving.

Without a doubt, social media definitely influences my style. I’m always scrolling through Instagram and Tumblr looking for tastemakers and trendsetters. Over the past year, I’ve found a handful of innovative bloggers, namely Amanda Shadforth of Oracle Fox and Vanessa Hong, Creative Director at The Haute Pursuit. Those two, as well as a number of others, inspire me to look at clothes differently. We develop as people; therefore, we develop our style. My guess is that when I’m 40-years-old I probably won’t be pulling off the same NASTY GAL crop tops I wear now. If I do, I apologize to my future children for having a mother as rad as me. Watch out Heidi Klum.

Speaking of NASTY GAL, I want my style ideally to reflect Sophia Amoruso’s vision of a true girl boss. What you wear should make you feel confident. What I wear makes me feel in charge. I’ve always been ambitious and I feel that my gravitation toward black American Apparel basics and beautifully destroyed denim jeans expresses that. It pleases me aesthetically. A good outfit will give you same feeling you get when discovering new music you can’t stop listening to.

Here at Kent State, there is no shortage of fashion. It’s hard to believe this gem in Northeastern Ohio has such a renown fashion program. I’m so excited to not only be working on earning my degree in fashion merchandising here, but to also be working alongside such an extensive team of Style Gurus! It’ll be thrilling to see what’s in store in this year in campus trends.
