STYLE GURU BIO: Allyson Boe

Hey there Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Allyson and I am a junior at the University of Michigan. With spring just around the corner, I am thrilled to be retuning for my second semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. The fall was full of trendsetters and now that 2017 is already underway, I could not be more excited to see what the new year will bring.

As an undergrad, I have been working towards a degree in communication studies with a minor in writing. Though I am not formally studying fashion, dressing well and keeping up with only the most fashionable trends has always been a passion of mine. One day I hope to write for a well-known fashion magazine, giving me the opportunity to combine my love for writing with my thirst for fashion.

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to pursue a career in the fashion industry. While my childhood dream of becoming a fashion designer faded as I began to pursue other interests growing up, I always hoped that one day fashion would find its way into my work. It only seemed natural when I decided I wanted to join the GuruGang last semester.

Fashion magazines were common around my household when I was growing up. My father would return home from work everyday with a stack of magazines knowing my fascination with them. As a tween who make bi-weekly trips to the mall a priority, I found myself only concerned with the clothing that the celebrities wore on the front cover of each magazine. I was certain that I could find out all things fashion by taking one look at Tyra Banks on the cover.

Though recreating styles I see on the latest issues of Vogue and Cosmopolitan is often risky, I find myself compelled to see what I can pull off. When it comes to my everyday style though, I tend to gravitate towards neutral tones and basic accessories. For this look, I chose to pair my little black dress with a black overcoat and a pair of leather high-heeled boots. Though spring is on its way, winter in Michigan is not quite through which means plaid scarves and dark colors like those in my outfit will continue to fill my wardrobe. Coupling my gold Michael Kors watch with one of their signature bags creates a timeless look, one I am always looking to strut. And of course, no outfit would be complete without a coat of bright red lipstick and winged eyeliner.

As classes start up again and winter slowly moves to spring, I cannot wait to see what other Style Gurus at the University of Michigan will bring to campus. Cheers to another #RAD semester.
