STYLE GURU BIO: Abby Malone

Hi there everyone! My name is Abby Malone and I am a new Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this fall! I am originally from West Bloomfield, Michigan, but am attending Miami University as a freshman this year, and I absolutely am so excited! My favorite things include cats, Mexican food, yoga and, of course, clothes! Fashion is very important to me, as it is the main way I like to express my individuality and creativity! Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been inspired by the ways someone can express so much about themselves through the clothes they wear. I remember gazing in awe over women who strolled through life on sky high stilettos with an air of confidence that can only be attained through knowing they looked good. To me, fashion has always been my favorite kind of art- because we live our lives in it (to quote Nigel from “The Devil Wears Prada”). So being able to showcase my love of this art is an absolute dream!

I owe a lot of my knowledge of clothing to my mom- always impeccably dressed, loves classics and does a full run through of her closet before buying anything. She taught me how to feel confident through what we decide to wear on our backs. Also, my personal inspiration comes from a variety of places. I adore (emphasis on adore) Alexa Chung’s wardrobe, as well as those of Blake Lively, Jane Birkin, Lily Collins, Karlie Kloss and, of course, Gigi and Kendall. Nothing wrong with getting a little inspiration every now and then!

I would probably describe my own personal style as classic with a twist. I love to take basic staples, like a white tee or jeans, and add an edgier piece that really pops! I usually start my outfit planning with one of these basics, like these jeans I’m wearing, because it makes styling the outfit so much easier. Frayed ankles are a huge trend right now- these light wash jeans from Nordstrom are my absolute favorite at the moment (thank you, Anniversary Sale!). This awesome crochet top as well as my platforms are from Free People. I get a large chunk of my wardrobe from their sale section! The necklace and earrings are from Kendra Scott, and the bag is a present from my mom from her recent trip to Spain. I would be lying if I said that I did not wear it with literally every single clothing item I own. I cannot wait to share more of my own personal styles with you as well of any #Fashionistas I spot on campus! Happy styling!
