STYLE ADVICE: Step Into Spring

With spring right around the corner—or, well, technically already here—we’re all starting to spice up our wardrobes with new fun looks for spring, or at least plan for those warm days that spring up and then disappear every week or so.  We all know what to do for spring—bright colors, floral, warmth, excitement, hooray! But what should you do for that in-between period of rainy, overcast weather—where it’s not quite jacket weather but also not yet time to comfortably break out your shorts—right before spring has officially sprung? This Fashionista seems to have just the idea.

Overall, the color scheme of this outfit grounds it, making it perfect for this time of year. Bell skirts are synonymous with spring and summer; however, this black stripped pattern keeps it subtle, artfully balanced between a more serious winter look and bright, bubbly spring fashion—making it perfect for those days, or months should your weather be anything like ours, of awkward kind of spring-y, kind of wintry weather. The polka dots on her shirt along with the peter pan collar add another touch of fun and playfulness, without feeling overdone, as many spring outfits can feel in early spring. Her subtle, warm-toned makeup also helps to balance the look.

This Fashionista’s look was simple but expertly selected, featuring a dotted, collared T-shirt from Kohl’s, and a striped bell skirt from Torrid—and, if I do say so myself, the subtle contrast created between the polka dots and the stripes in this outfit was a work of genius. Paired with her black suede boots, and her other basic black accessories, this Fashionista created a wonderful, yet subtle spring look.
