STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Style Unzipped

March 23rd, 2016 at 2:00am

Let’s get sporty for 2016 and slide into my favorite trend—bomber jackets. Originally these jackets were created for fighter pilots in WWII, but this is a fashion trend a long time in the making. Although bomber jackets were originally for men, this is now a trend that every woman should have in her closet. Alexander Wang, Tomas Maier and Burberry are a few of the famous designers that have created unique cropped flight jackets—specifically the MA1 bomber. For the everyday girl on a budget, we can head to the nearest Forever 21 or the Topshop department at Nordstrom to snag this trendy piece.

This Fashionista went for a deep merlot colored MA1 bomber jacket with silver hardware. It is slightly over-sized, which is perfect for the upcoming spring days when you don’t want to put on a heavy sweater. The hardware perfectly complements her studded Michael Kors backpack, which doubles as a purse. For spring, many people gravitate towards floral prints and bright colors, but not this Fashionista. She keeps her tones neutral enough so that all the focus is on the trendy jacket, which she pairs with a mesh crop top and slimming, high-waisted jeans. She tops off the look with suede over-the-knee black boots and ebony glasses that have a thin golden bar, adding the perfect touch of shine.

Keep in mind that bomber jackets come in all colors and materials; if you want to make a major statement you can definitely go for something like a contrasting sleeve or pattern. While floral prints might not be very groundbreaking according to Miranda Priestly, this season the floral bomber jacket is making it into all of the It Girls’ closets.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? ”Bomber jackets help bring street style to an everyday outfit. My go-to brand is Topshop for bombers because of the quality and fit of the jacket.”
