STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Show Me The Shoulder, Honey

I find spring and summer to be the hardest months to dress for. Having to shed cozy winter layers for more skin-revealing clothing can put a wrench in things, especially when you haven’t gotten your “perfect summer bod” yet. So I took to the streets to see how Fashionistas are beating the heat in the southern sun.

On my journey I learned two things: 1. The key to summer fashion is confidence. 2. In the fashion world, there is always something for everyone.

Take this stylish Fashionista, for example. Not only is she exuding confidence as she struts downtown, but she’s also mastering one of this season’s hottest emerging trends: the off-the-shoulder blouse.

Off-the-shoulder garments are great because anyone can pull them off and look chic. They come in a variety of styles from lace to ruffles and colors from neon oranges to pale pinks. Off-the-shoulder shirts expose the décolletage, creating a soft and often sexy look. Plus, there are long sleeve and short sleeve options. If you’re not as comfortable with your arms but still want to stay cool, you can let your neckline breathe while concealing your arms.

Our Fashionista nailed her feminine outfit by keeping her off-the-shoulder look on trend in a soft, serenity blue. The smocked neckline of the shirt draws the viewer up to her face while her denim mini skirt elongates her legs with the centered row of buttons. Last but not least, she keeps her accessories minimal. You don’t want to overwhelm your outfit with too much. Wearing something off-the-shoulder is really about showing skin that often isn’t revealed. This Fashionista clips her favorite pair of sunglasses on her blouse and her tan, fringed, suede booties complete her ’70s-inspired look.

I think it’s safe to say that this Fashionista is ready to tackle summer fashion with gusto. Be bold and try out an off-the-shoulder garment, and you’ll be feeling confident in your summer styles in no time.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My style advice would be to never leave the house in something you’re not 100 percent confident in, but also remember that fashion should be fun, so experiment and just express yourself!”
