STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Savvy Secondhand Shopping

This semester, shopping for clothes should not break your bank. In fact, shopping as a college student may even be a daunting task due to lack of wardrobe space. Have no fear, my fashionista friends, a solution is here! Savvy shopping. Correction: Savvy secondhand shopping. The best part? You can trade in your own, used clothes for shopping credits or use your student ID for extra discounts at thrift stores like Goodwill! This means that you do not even need to touch your college savings to get new clothes and you can create some space in your closet as you do so!

While searching for affordable yet unique statement pieces, I stopped by the Goodwill Store near campus. I could not help but notice the ultimate pair of statement red-orange pants that were likely once treasured by someone’s grandmother. These bottoms remind me of the “Granny’s Attic” look highlighted in the fall/winter 2016 ASOS Collection. With an elastic waistband, pockets and a low price tag of four dollars, these pants are perfect for any college fashionista!

To create a transitional Summer-to-Fall look, I paired these statement pants with an airy, white eyelet-detailed tank from Forever 21. Adding a denim jacket to any outfit is the perfect touch on a crisp, Fall day. The denim jacket that I incorporated is just the right wash and although it is from The Islander, a women’s boutique, thrift stores often have awesome alternatives! To give the look a college vibe, I cuffed the pants to show off the classic white high top Chuck Taylor Converse- an essential addition to anyone’s collection. When you are feeling uninspired by your wardrobe or itching to get a few new clothing items, follow my Style Guru Advice and shop secondhand! Until next time, may your dollars be as stretchy as my thrifted Grandma Pants!
