STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Killing it with Kimonos

March 25th, 2015 at 7:54pm

Kimonos are a staple that should be apart of every Fashionista’s closet. They are effortlessly cute and easy to pair! They complete the perfect outfit for festivals, beach days and lunch dates. There are endless ways to style them!

When I think of kimonos I think of the style adapted from hippies. There’s such a boho and easy-going vibe to these free-flowing covers. Vanessa Hudgens’ boho-inspired style also comes to mind when thinking of kimonos. If you haven’t jumped on this trend wagon, I suggest you do. One simple kimono can expand your closet and open up many possibilities to your every day wardrobe.

This Fashionista pairs it perfectly for the bipolar spring weather we’re currently experiencing here at UNL. She paired her lightweight, sheer kimono with a tank top to keep it cool when the temperatures spike in the afternoon. Her choice of jeans keeps her warm on the walk to chilly 8:00 a.m. classes.

Her accessories compliment the colors in her kimono perfectly as well. The metallic pink of her Sperry Top-Sider’s bring out the pink in the kimono and draw attention to her bottom half. The metallic rose gold color of her watch also complements the color of her shoes. You can never go wrong with faux diamond earrings to compliment the sparkle of an outfit either.

Kimonos are versatile enough to be worn all year-round. There are some made to keep you warm during the chillier months, and others that are designed just to add interest to an outfit.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Matching colors! Pulling your outfit together with similar colors will make it seem like you have it all together even when you don’t!”
