STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Vest Season

I know what you’re thinking: it’s December, yet here on the East coast it feels more like it’s May as we get deeper into the Christmas season. The past few days have been in the 60’s and this has been causing a lot of frustration in figuring out what outfit to wear each day. You don’t want to dress like it’s spring (even though it really does feel like it is), but you also don’t want to wear heavy winter coats yet since the weather has been so warm. One trend that always seems to withstand any winter weather is the vest. Vests are great substitutes for any type of jacket, especially during the long months of winter we have in New England.

New Englanders know the importance of keeping warm, and the vest is no exception. Not only do vests pair nicely with long sleeve shirts and sweaters, they also help to complement any accessory or makeup trend you might want to stand out in your look. It’s often a struggle to wake up in the morning with plenty of the time to get ready for class, and during the winter this is no exception. Vests are something quick you can pull on over any shirt, and will help enhance any look, making you seem a little more put together than you expected.

This Fashionista does a great job of showcasing this winter trend! Her gray and white checkered vest pairs nicely with her long sleeve all gray sweater. The white in the vest helps to offset the grays in her outfit, especially because she chose to leave the vest unzipped, giving her a more relaxed look. This Fashionista chose to wear light wash jeans, which really helps to put the focus of her outfit on the vest. Her darker boots really help her beautifully bright hair color stand out. She did a great job of wearing dainty jewelry that wouldn’t take away from the overall look. When wearing lighter colors, a great way to make your look stand out is being a little more dramatic with your makeup. This Fashionista did a great job of this! She chose a light and natural foundation, with lighter lips and put all the focus on her eyes. Her bolder eye makeup really makes you focus more on her overall look, especially drawing your eyes to the trend of her outfit, the vest. Because the weather has been so warm, this Fashionista did not need to wear a winter jacket, instead the vest acted as one for her.

Vests are helping this Fashionista to stay both warm and cool during this surprisingly spring-like month of winter. As the nights grow cooler and a “Christmas chill” enters the air, vests will help you to stay warm, while still looking stylish. With Christmas lights filling up across campus and throughout neighborhoods, days getting dark sooner and Fashionistas trying to stay stylish in the winter weather, it’s beginning to look a lot like vest season.
