STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Breaking Rules with Black And Brown

I spotted this Fashionisto heading to our local coffee shop, Cafeteria, or “The Caf” as he likes to call it, for Open Mic night. A lot of SUNY New Paltz students head down there to show off their talents which range from comedy to playing music and singing to poetry readings. What a perfect outfit to relax and drink some coffee in!

You know what they say, “the best time to wear a striped sweater is all the time,” (thanks, Spongebob). This Fashionisto’s black and charcoal gray sweater is just right for the transitioning weather. All you have to do is roll up your sleeves to accommodate the changing climate. It’s that simple and won’t ruin your outfit. No more having to freeze your way to class in the morning, regret your outfit choice by the afternoon and being grateful for those long sleeves again in the evening.

Now, I know a lot of haters will hate on this Fashionisto’s choice of pants, claiming that you simply cannot mix black and shades of brown together, but I disagree. Both are neutrals and, in reality, black and shades of brown are mixed together all the time—just look at cheetah print! Chinos are a great alternative to jeans for guys because they come in a variety of different colors to show off their personality and are more comfortable than denim jeans.

The boat shoes are a nice finish to his outfit. They dress up his outfit more and provide a color to his look. The pale blue shade doesn’t take away from his outfit. I love that they aren’t clunky like most men’s shoes and come with actual soles so you can wear them without worrying that they are going to get ruined.
