STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Bold Backpacks

In the Midwest, we are in that awkward in-between stage of winter and spring. It’s warm enough to break out the spring colors but chilly enough that a jacket is still needed. What better way to rock the transition than with a bold accessory? Head to class in style by carrying your books in a statement bag.

This fashionable student chose a bright light blue messenger bag with black and yellow detailing. He paired his bag with an emerald jacket and a gray zip-up with subtle neon detailing. On the bottom he is rocking sneakers and skinny jeans with a pink wash. The contrast of his dark-toned apparel makes his bag more eye-catching and vibrant. If you’re thinking about rocking a statement accessory, the key is to make sure that the accessory is the spotlight of your look. Keep the other pieces neutral or monochromatic.

This trend could be approached from any direction; there are a ton of ways to style this look. Some of my personal favorite backpacks include patterned, denim and edgy. Also, if you’re feeling crafty, you could DIY your own bag. This could be done by using fabric markers or paint. You could also add pins, studs, gems or extra fabric. This gives you full rights to say that your bag is a one of a kind look.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Rock the bold messenger bag just because it’s great. You need something carry your books in anyways, so why not do it in style?”
