STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Black and White is Worth the Fight

Fashionistas and Fashionistos, winter is officially upon us. When you have to experience winter in Chicago, well, you’re going to really feel it. The temperatures are now in the negatives, snow is everywhere and it seems like it is not going to stop soon. However, that does not mean that we can’t be warm and look good at the same time.

During warmer seasons, we were able to experiment with brighter colors and neon shades; now, we will have to stick to darker tints. With that said, our looks don’t necessarily have to be boring. That is when black and white come handy; it’s the easiest possible pairing, yet we often forget about it.

Layering black and white clothing is very simple because the two colors work well with any skin tone and hair color. You can also add a colorful item to brighten up the look, or play around with accessories. It’s very hard to go wrong with such versatile and neutral colors.

Layering black and white with style is the go-to look for the winter. There’s no need for trends; black and white is always trending! It’s perfect for any occasion, from class to your internship, or from work to a date. When layered, like in this Fashionista’s case, it keeps you warm and comfortable, all while giving you that “urban-chic” look. Plus, it requires minimum effort when planning the outfit.

This Fashionista sets the perfect example of how to utilize black and white layering. For the top half of her look, she is wearing a simple white T-shirt, a medium wash denim button-down and a warm, black, midi coat with a gold zipper to highlight her slim shape. For her bottoms, she is wearing black fitted pants and a pair of flat black boots that will allow her to easily walk through the tons of snow that now populate the city! Everything is topped by an obviously black and white infinity scarf. The reason why this look stood out to me is the perfect alternation between black, white, denim and print. The neutrals are so effortlessly held up by the washed-out blue color of the shirt, and by the scarf’s striped print. Every piece contributes to making this outfit look creative, lively and anything but boring!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I think black and white works all the time because it’s so versatile for both casual and dressy looks. It’s a classic that never goes out of style.”
