STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Birkenstocks are Back

Once desired on the catwalk, Birkenstocks have been in and out of style for years, and this spring, they’re back. Popular now that the weather is warming up, people all over Oxford can be seen wearing these funky sandals. They come in many different colors and styles, and I’ve been seeing them around everywhere lately.

From the Birkenstock website, we can see that Johann Birkenstock first started making these shoes in 1774 in Germany, but they didn’t hit the U.S. markets until 1966. Not only are these shoes on the rise today, but they are also great for arch support. There are many different options of sandals (they also offer other shoes), and not only have I been seeing the classic Birkenstocks around campus, but also other cute styles, such as my personal favorite, the “Mayari.”

When I saw this Fashionista, I had to stop her because her outfit was so laid back and comfortable, but fierce. And, of course–she was wearing her “Burks” in the “Madrid” style. She is also wearing lululemon athletica leggings, a chic crop top and a Louis Vuitton cross-body with coral nails and loose waves. I love this outfit and think that it is perfect for class, going out with friends, to throw on for a workout and more.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love Birkenstocks because they’re trendy, comfortable and I can slip them on whenever I want. They look cute with almost any outfit and if I’m in a hurry I can just throw them on!”
