STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Add a Little “Ponch” to Your Outfit

This Fashionista’s outfit immediately reminded me of the major poncho trend that seems to be everywhere. While her top is an actual shirt, the style is very reminiscent of a poncho: the pointed bottom, the flowing nature through the middle and the fun print. Coupled with a pair of blue jeans and striped Vans, this Fashionista pulls off a comfortable but stylish outfit.

When I think ponchos, I think comfort but in a way that’s different than just pulling on your favorite sweatshirt as an extra layer. While a sweatshirt definitely offers comfort, it’s not always the most fashionable of choices. That’s when the poncho enters the picture and steals your heart. Ponchos tend to be one of the most diverse articles of clothing around. They come in bold prints, neutrals perfect for pairing with everything and pretty much everything else that your outfit could need. It may seem like I’m just ranting about ponchos, but I have a point. Ponchos are perfect for layering. We’re heading straight for spring, but there are still cool temperatures hanging around, meaning layering is still an option.

In my opinion, ponchos are best styled with a pair of jeans or a more form fitting dress. With either of these options, you accentuate the flow of the poncho rather than blending it in with other loose fabrics. A poncho is not only a great option for everyday wear but is the perfect, easy addition for traveling. It’s comfortable enough for any length of trip and a fashionable way to keep warm on an airplane. I snagged pictures of this Fashionista after our shared 8 a.m. class, so I know that her poncho-esque shirt was in effort to achieve the fine line in between relaxation and being presentable.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I tend to work early mornings and have some early classes, so I of course want to look good, but sometimes it’s hard to want to. The key is comfy clothes. It also helps if you have some special pieces that you really love to wear. That helps you get excited to get dressed in the morning.”
