STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: A Little Something Extra

May 21st, 2015 at 2:10am

It’s the little things that count in both life and in fashion. That’s why this week’s STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK focuses on how the tiniest influence of pattern and design can impact your outfit. A glimpse of pink under a black coat or an electric blue accessory are details which make an outfit unique. Popular wearable pieces that can add subtle design to your look include jackets, shoes and small accessories.

This Fashionista’s bold choice to wear a raincoat with plaid interior is the inspiration for this week’s post. It looks like a regular rain jacket at first, but when worn unzipped, it reveals a different look. With the pattern inside her jacket, her look is very ’90s. She is pictured wearing a camouflage-inspired T-shirt tucked into a navy blue skirt. Her cherry red Dr. Martens add a pop of color to her black tights. Her round-framed glasses complement her outfit with their simple frame and vintage style.

My favorite part about this look is that the skirt adds feminine flair to an otherwise not-so-feminine outfit. Without the plaid interior of her jacket, this Fashionista’s look wouldn’t have stood out from the rest. The plaid added a small but important change. Stay more in tune with designs and patterns this week, and recognize how adding a little to your outfit can mean a lot.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “My fashion sense is very simple and plain and there is nothing wrong with dressing monochromatic. But I try to always wear one piece in my look that adds my personality. Usually it’s my lipstick purse, but this week I chose my plaid jacket. Also, these frames are fake! I love wearing fake frames that match my outfits accordingly.”
