STYLE ADVICE: Night to Day

The first day of spring is just around the corner, but here in Paris we’re still awaiting a warmer weather forecast. In the dead of winter, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut and gravitate towards the easiest and warmest pieces in your wardrobe, which are often, let’s be honest, more functional than fashionable. We’ve all tried putting together outfits that will allow us to take our looks from day to night, but what about night to day? I had some of some of my favorite tops, shoes, and even jackets pegged as strictly “nighttime” or “going out” pieces until this Fashionista helped me realize they could be the perfect way to spice up a daytime outfit.

I love how this Fashionista styles a beautiful, glittery silver top for daytime with some black skinny jeans and heeled booties. This statement top would normally be something I’d wear for a fashion week soirée or out for a fancy dinner with friends, but she brings it perfectly from night to day by toning down the rest of her look and keeping the overall feel quite casual. The vintage leather backpack she wears over the shirt is a perfect addition to the look, and helps to keep it chic yet appropriate for daytime. Apart from a pair of simple gold earrings, this Fashionista is jewelery free, and her makeup is subtly neutral which lets the clothes speak for themselves.

This night to day transition is the perfect way to get way more wear out of some of your most eccentric pieces. Try throwing a glittery top over your favorite pair of skinny jeans, or pair that lace corset top with a white T-shirt and bell-bottoms. In order to keep the focus on your statement piece, be sure to keep the rest of your look, including makeup, simple and clean. Happy styling!
