STYLE ADVICE: New Year, New Look

While the snow on the ground in Michigan has finally melted after a cold, long December, there is no denying that flurries will make their way to the Great Lakes state once more this season. With snow still in our future, Ann Arbor has brought fourth Fashionistas and Fashionistos strutting classic winter looks for the start of this fabulous New Year. Though most of us find ourselves wearing North Face and Canada Goose parkas a majority of our days to brace the strong winds on campus, others have taken advantage of the few warm (and by warm, I mean 50 degrees) days we see now and again.

This Fashionisto was exploring Nichols Arboretum when I found him. Upon first glance his outfit seems quite simple, after a closer look it becomes obvious that he made sure to match his colors to perfection. Pairing an orange Polo Ralph Lauren quarter zip sweatshirt with a matching pair of tan canvas sneakers, our Fashionisto has found the perfect look to get through the chilly winters in Michigan. By wearing a heather gray shirt underneath the quarter zip, the focus of his upper body remains on the neutral tones in both the brand icon and zipper. The light wash of his Silver brand jeans is equally ideal as it allows the bright orange in his quarter zip, the main point of his look, to stand out. While the brand icon on his sneakers retains the same orange found within his quarter zip, it is nothing more than a fashionable coincidence.

Because of his brown hair, both on top of his head and within his beard, the burnt colors work well together, keeping this look clean and timeless. Even the light colored stitching on his jeans blends in with the color scheme. To complete his outfit, our Fashionisto wore a classic Argonite Shinola watch, exclusively made in Detroit. The brown leather band and nude face highlight the brown in his belt and his shoelaces, while complementing the other neutral colors that make up this look.

With 2017 already off to a great start in the world of fashion, there is no telling what trends campus will see in the coming months. While you can never go wrong with a classic quarter zip and light washed jeans, new styles will continue to find their way to us. As the cold snow turns to a blazing sun, we cannot wait to find new looks perfect for the New Year.
