STYLE ADVICE: More Than Meets the Eye

My style advice is keeping it simple does not mean keeping it boring. I love this Fashionista’s look—it’s monochromatic with all black and gray hues. Everyone loves a simple T-shirt and jeans look as it is effortless but still looks cute and playful. In this look, our Fashionista added a leather jacket which makes this simple staple look much more edgy. Even with the jacket, it seems like a pretty simple look; however, it is the opposite. There is so much texture and fabric play and the mixture makes it a deeper look. The textured leather jacket with the smooth leather bag offers contrast without conflict. The cotton T-shirt and cotton sneakers are broken up with a pair of black denim jeans. The denim really works to make the look structured; whereas, if she were wearing leggings or joggers, the look would be much different and offer a different style. So the denim really makes the outfit look put together without trying too hard. No one wants to be a try-hard.

The look is accompanied with little gold details. As shown in the pictures above, the bag is monogramed with the Fashionista’s initials and she is also wearing a very dainty gold ring. Both details are simple but super cute. The daintiness of the ring plays off the edginess of the leather—both the jacket and the bag. It brings a softer, cuter detail to the look. Little personalized things like these are great ways to make a look your own, even if they are not extremely noticeable. Adding personal touches and individuality to a look, even if only you can see or notice, make you feel good about the outfit so go for it and add those little details!

The biggest thing for me is comfort, especially if I have a long day ahead of me, so these sneakers spoke to me! Our Fashionista easily could have chosen a bootie or flat, but I love (with a capital L) that she opted for a sneaker—always comfy and always sporty-chic. The simple solid black color of the sneaker allows for the jacket and bag to make their statements. I look at the sneaker as the foundation for the outfit because it supports each piece, while supporting the entire look as well. The gray T-shirt is also a great pick. It contrasts with the jacket just enough without screaming for attention. The whole look is unified, simple, and definitely not boring!
