A Lazy Girl’s Guide to Getting Ready for Class

Just in case you haven’t had time to check your calendar recently: it’s October. This means that the exciting beginning of the semester that made us want to hop out of bed extra early to perfect our hair and makeup for class and impress our new classmates is sadly winding down. Now, most of us find ourselves waking up approximately 20 minutes before class starts just to do the bare minimum hair and makeup and throw on a pair of leggings. But, I’ve figured out a way that getting ready for class doesn’t have to be a painful hour-long ordeal.

By no means do I claim to be a style and beauty expert, but here’s the quick and easy routine that I recommend for girls who want to roll out of bed and go to class without looking like they just did so.

pick out your outfit the night before class

We all begin the semester with high hopes and goals about how cute we’re going to dress for class every single day. For instance, the entire first week of school I found myself choosing and laying out my outfit the night before. By the second week, though, I started thinking “Eh, I’ll just pick something out when I wake up.” In other words, I started wearing leggings and T-shirts every day… not my best work. But, it’s time to get back to good habits! After all, there’s still more than enough time left in the semester to put your most fashionable foot forward. So, when you finish your homework for the night (or if you’re a procrastinator like me and want to put it off just a little longer), take two or three minutes to choose an outfit. You won’t regret it when you show up to class every day looking fierce.

quick and easy hair and makeup

Some people love taking the time to do a full face of makeup every day for class. Power to you, makeup gurus; please teach me your ways! Unfortunately, I am not one of these people. I’ve found that my ideal makeup routine for class consists of a few quick steps. First, I make sure my face is washed and any leftover mascara or residue is cleaned off. It’s best to start with a clean slate. Next, I apply my tinted moisturizer and possibly liquid foundation and a little concealer if I stayed up too late the night before and look tired. Then, I’ll finish the look with some bronzer, mascara, and lip gloss, creating the perfect fresh-faced look! (Tip: try using your bronzer as eyeshadow; it really works!) If you want to take your look to the next level, simply add brightly colored lipstick or eyeliner.

As for hair, I’ve found that taking a shower and blow drying my hair the night before class works best for me because it saves a lot of time in the morning. That way, I can wake up, run a brush through it, and put some mousse in it before straightening or curling it a little if I have the time.
