8 Holiday Makeup Looks to Spice up the Season

Since you have more free time than you might know what to do with over winter break, the holidays are one of my favorite times to experiment with makeup. From incorporating the colors of the season in fresh ways, to classic glam looks to wear to your work party, to blingy highlights for a skin-focused off-duty face,’tis the time of year for having fun with your makeup. Read on for eight holiday makeup looks to copy from our community.

Classic Festive Red Lip

You can’t go wrong with a traditional nod to the season in the form of a statement red lip. Picking a comfortable matte formula that fades gracefully through family meals is a must. I love the Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick ($14) in Always Red.

Icy Blue Winged Liner

Instead of the usual red and green makeup looks common on Instagram, take some inspiration from the frosty temperatures outside and create a blue winged liner. Nyx Vivid Brights Eyeliner [$7] in Vivid Sapphire is a fun frosty shade that won’t break the bank.

Dark Vampy Holiday Lip

For a more sultry take on the classic red lip, go for a deep burgundy shade at your next holiday party. Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick ($17) in Havana Nights is a rich brick color that will last you through the evening.

Monochromatic Dewy Pink Look

The holidays are a great time to try out some new makeup trends. Try out a monochromatic look by using the same color family on the lips, cheeks and eyes. It unifies the face in a beautiful way. Color-coordinate pink tones with Bite Beauty’s Multistick ($24) in Macaroon that works in all three places.

Dramatic Winged Out Red Shadow

Take your festive red color from the lips to the eyes with a blown out red eyeshadow look. The Morphe 24G Grand Glam Eyeshadow Palette ($44) gives you a selection of pink and red shades in varying tones to play with. The large pan size means you can double the shades as cheek colors too. You can also try blending out any eye safe red lipstick you already own on the lid for a budget-friendly alternative!

Editorial Wing and Faux Freckles

Don’t let your family forget how fashion forward you are during the festivities. Throw in a graphic winged liner look with a scattering of fake freckles. Nyx Epic Ink Liner ($9) has a tiny brush tip for detailed work, and any eyeliner or brow pencil can work as a freckle creator. Just lightly tap dots over the nose and cheek area. Then decide if you’d like to keep them bold or gently dab them out with a finger to make them look natural.

Glowy Skin with a Bright Lip

Sometimes you just can’t be bothered with much makeup before diving into opening your presents. Keep your makeup work simple with a swipe of Ciaté London Dewy Stix ($26) in Glow for a sheer sheen. After applying, add a festive punch with a pigmented gloss like Colourpop’s Ultra Glossy Lip [$6] in Champagne Mami.

Evergreen Christmas Tree Colored Eye

We can’t forget about green, the other half of the classic holiday color duo. To create a Christmas tree-inspired eye look, reach for the greens in the Urban Decay Born To Run Eyeshadow Palette ($49). This set of eyeshadows has a lot of neutral options to back you up if you aren’t comfortable with wearing a lot of color.
