FASHION FROM ABROAD: Catalan Flair

April 19th, 2016 at 2:10am

Barcelona has it all. The beach, the nightlife, the endless tapas and sangria, the bits of Gaudí everywhere and of course…the fashion. Each morning when I grab my coffee and croissant, I sit by the small window in my favorite café and watch the local routine…or should I say fashion show? Barcelona Fashionistas are what we call style rebels. They are not afraid to strut new trends and are very fashion conscious, definitely falling on the daring end of the spectrum. Their street style looks are always refreshing and gives each girl a model off-duty vibe. I cannot get enough of this hip Spanish city, and this Fashionista pulls together a classic fashion-forward look.

Fashionista’s in Barcelona are masters of dressing for comfort without compromising their runway style. This Fashionista rocks a great mix of evening glitz and casual, daytime charm in her trendy jumpsuit. This sleeveless floral patterned jumpsuit is an eye-catcher on the streets of Barcelona. Though a tricky trend, it is hard not to love a piece that flatters this Fashionista so well! A jumpsuit is a staple for any wardrobe because of its all-in-one-outfit, which can be easily glammed up or dressed down for any afternoon or night in Barcelona. The dark blue color and the transparent, flowy pant silhouette elongates the body and makes this look seem effortless. This Fashionista pairs the jumpsuit with a mix of gold jewelry and a pair of chic sunglasses. What really pulls the outfit together are the shoes, a staple item in every Barcelona street style look. The most apparent shoe craze in this city are platforms and chunky heels (personally my favorite fashion trend in this city!). Whether it is rubber-soled booties or thick platform sandals, these shoes tie in each ensemble. Giving the outfit a secret edgy, retro-chic appearance, this Fashionista’s wooden chunky heels are my favorite part of this look! The blend of jewelry and shoes with the eye-catching jumpsuit make this look stick out amongst the bustling streets of Barcelona.

Captured: I spotted this Fashionista on Passeig de Gràcia, right in the heart of Barcelona. This street is a breathtaking boulevard of exclusive shops and modernist buildings and is the home to two of Gaudí’s creations: La Pedrera and Casa Batlló. Walking along this street each day, I am surrounded by some of Europe’s best dressed Fashionistas. I am so lucky to be spending my semester in this trendy seaside city.
