How-To De-stress Your Life

As a college student, having a social life and balancing all of your schoolwork can sometimes get very stressful. It can seem hard to just take a minute for yourself to de-stress but, if you keep going without stopping, eventually you will run out of steam and end up exhausting yourself. There are many things you can do to help yourself destress from your hectic life that are easy and fun to do.

The first thing I always do when I’m stressed is make a schedule. First, I make a list of all the things I have to do. When I see things written out it seems less intimidating then it does when it is just floating around in my head. After that I schedule it all out day by day. Sometimes I will schedule to do a whole project in one day, or I break it up so I’m only doing a little bit each day. It all depends on what I have to do and how much I have to do. One of the biggest benefits of this strategy is that feeling of relief you get when you go to check something off of your list.

One of my favorite de-stressing activities is to have an at-home spa day. I usually start out with taking a bath and using one of my favorite bath bombs. I either listen to music or I set my laptop up in the bathroom and watch Netflix. Next, I give myself a facial with one of my favorite masks from Lush Cosmetics. I alternate between ‘Cup O’ Coffee’ and ‘Mask of Magnaminty.’ The last thing I do is my nails. I usually use Sally Hansen nail polish. I always try to pick a bright and cheery color to lift my mood.

Another method is to just sit and relax, which is definitely easier said than done. Put on some comfy clothes and just try to sit and watch TV or watch a movie. You can cuddle up on the couch with a blanket and some hot tea to help you relax. If you have any pets try having them sit with you, too. This will shut your mind off from whatever you are stressing over.

Many people find exercising a great way to de-stress. Sometimes simply going for a walk can help clear your head. Find some trails in your area that you like and see if it works for you.  Other exercises like yoga and running are also popular ways of trying to relieve stress. Everyone is different and likes different things so try a few different exercises and see which one works best for you.
