Your Breakfast Just Got Way Cooler

June 5th, 2017 at 2:00am

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but if you’re anything like me, you curl up in those bed sheets hitting the snooze button every 10 minutes before you finally force yourself out of bed. In those cases, breakfast becomes a boring grab-and-go coffee and donut, and you end up skipping out on the most important meal of the day. Luckily for you, these next three quick and easy (not to mention aesthetically pleasing) breakfast ideas will have you feeling full, energized, and you’ll still have enough time to snooze that alarm!

Bagel with mermaid spread? Yes, please!

This mermaid bagel is my play on the latest “mermaid toast” trend seen on Instagram, however I prefer my cream cheese on a bagel. What you will need is:

  • Bagel of your choice
  • Cream cheese
  • Food coloring (red and blue should do it)

Steps:

  1. Take your cream cheese and portion it out into three cups.
  2. Using the food coloring dyes, drip one to three drops of food coloring until you get a color you like. For the light pink shade, I used about two drops, for blue I used three drops, and for the light purple I used two drops of red and three drops of blue.
  3. Using a knife smear your cream cheese in different places making a tie-dye like smear.
  4. The fun part! Eat and enjoy!

The green machine

This green smoothie is the perfect on-the-go breakfast with the perfect energy boost that I’m sure we all desperately need in the mornings. Not to mention it is ridiculously easy to make! You will need:

  • ½ a cup of spinach or kale (both if you’re feeling crazy)
  • 1 cup of sliced mango or pineapple chunks
  • Half a cucumber
  • A whole kiwi
  • 1 ½ cups of water
  • Lemon (optional)
  • Coconut flakes (optional)

Steps:

  1. To make your life so much easier, have all these ingredients sliced and stored away the night before. That way, when you wake up, all you do it toss everything into a blender!
  2. Blend ingredients and add ice.
  3. Voilà! (Did I not tell you it was ridiculously easy?)

Very berry bowl

This smoothie bowl is one of my favorite breakfast options. Berries are great sources of fiber, and blueberries are packed with antioxidants called anthocyanins that help keep memory sharp. Raspberries, on the other hand, contain ellagic acid, a compound with anti-cancer properties. This smoothie bowl is the perfect way to pack all your favorite fruits into a healthy breakfast. For this very berry bowl, you will need:

  • 1 cup of sliced mango
  • ½ a cup of blueberries
  • ½ a cup of raspberries
  • Coconut flakes
  • Chia Seeds
  • Sliced Kiwi
  • Sliced Banana

Steps:

  1. Mix the mango, blueberries, and raspberries in a blender or NutriBullet, and add a cup of water if necessary (but the consistency should be a little heavy).
  2. Pour your berry mix into a bowl.
  3. Decorate with all your favorite toppings.
  4. Grab a spoon and enjoy!
