BEAUTY BAR: Ready To Rock

Whenever I think of punk fashion, one hairstyle immediately comes to mind—the hair-raising mohawk. Tough and cool, the mohawk is the ultimate in giving off a casual “I don’t care” attitude.

Now, while the classic style mohawk may seem like an intimidating choice to make, it is actually fairly easy to replicate mohawk-esque vibes utilizing one simple hair style—the French braid. Simply take a French braid, flip it inside out a la Katniss Everdeen, and voila, like this Fashionista you too can have a hairstyle to match your rockin’ style.

Aside from being totally rock and roll, this Fashionista’s braid is a great way to keep her hair out of her face while she’s strutting around campus. She continues her edgy look with a vintage denim jacket she scored from her mom and a neon graphic T-shirt she scored from her dad. Talk about a win, win, am I right? Finishing off with black skinnies and an all important pair of black boots, this Fashionista is ready to rock. Pointed toe boots are also super in for fall and the silver buckles add even more flair.

What’s on the BEAUTY BAR: To achieve a pseudo mohawk of your own, start a reverse French braid, also known as a Dutch braid, at the crown of your head and simply continue that braid until it’s the length you want it. You can either stop at the nape of your neck and tie it off with an elastic, like this Fashionista, for a low pony, or you can just braid all the way down. Don’t forget to mess up the braid a little to add height! For even more volume, try adding dry shampoo to your hair and backcombing the front before you do the braid. The higher the better!
