AROUND TOWN: YL Lynn YE

Have you ever dreamed of designing your own fashion line? I sure have and it is amazing to see someone pursuing their dream. YL Lynn Ye is currently a sophomore studying fashion design at Parsons The New School For Design and I cannot wait to see her creations on the runway show. Attending The New School has made me realize how difficult and competitve it is to become a fashion designer. YL Lynn Ye believes in her dream and will do whatever it takes to achieve it.

Name: YL Lynn Ye

Role: Student Designer

College Fashionista:What/Who inspired you to become a fashion designer?

YL Lynn Ye: I used to go to a hair salon with my mom all the time when I was little. I loved  how a hair stylist and a makeup artist changed people’s look and made them happy and confident after they left the salon. I always thought I would be a hairstylist or a makeup artist when I grew up until I saw a fashion magazine (I don’t remember what magazine it was, but something like WWD), I realized I wanted to do something more than just hair and makeup, I wanted to design something different, something crazy that people don’t usually wear on the street. Combining fashion with art, but minimal in details.

CF: Who is your fashion role model?

YLY: I get inspired by many designers and all their different approaches to fashion; however, if I have to pick one it would have to be The Row. The Row really focuses on their fabric and materials, which their quality is amazing. Even though their designs are very simple and minimal, the construction of the garments are so sophisticated and unique.

CF: What are some of your favorite pieces to wear?

YLY: My usual attire consists of black and white or jeans, something simple and easy. I wear Issey Miyake’s pleats please clothing a lot because I really like the interesting shapes that are formed by those tiny pleats.

CF: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

YLY: I recently decided to do children’s wear because there are not that many restrictions of clothing on children compared to women. Children can wear anything without people judging. No matter how crazy it is.

Learn More: This designer has such unique ideas, definitely be on the lookout for YL Lynn Ye future fashion collections.
