For most of us, college is the first time in our lives when we can truly express ourselves and begin to pursue our passions. For this Fashionista, it was time to begin her career as a budding fashion designer. With her feminine style and eye for trends, we can surely expect to see her designs all over the runways in the upcoming future.

Name: Paris Harper

Role: Student Designer

CollegeFashionista: When did you know you wanted to study fashion design?

Paris Harper: I think I have known it my whole life. When Project Runway first premiered, I knew for sure. I have always loved fashion and illustrating, so it was really a no-brainer.

CF: What class at Michigan State University has inspired you the most?

PH: It was a class I took last semester that was called Explorations in Apparel and Textile Design. We had the freedom to design whatever we wanted and experiment with different techniques.

CF: Who are some designers who inspire you?

PH: Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta and Jean Paul Gaultier to name a few. Each has defined what fashion is today in their own right. It is hard not to be inspired by incredible people who have done beautiful things.

CF: What are your plans after graduating?

PH: It has always been New York. It is my favorite city in the world. When I am there, I hope to work under one of my favorite designers, build up my resume and then hopefully start my own company.

Learn More: Paris is a sophomore at Michigan State University’s School of Apparel and Textile Design. Be sure to follow her on Instagram to check out some of her work and more of her fabulous style!
