AROUND TOWN: Jess Stevenson

As Fashionistas and Fashoinistos, we all love a good fashion magazine. Within a fashion magazine, between the endless perfume advertisements and acknowledgements, lies a place where reality meets fantasy—and we call that fashion. Can you imagine being someone who captures those iconic trends and styles? Let me introduce you to Jess Stevenson! Jess is currently a freshman at University of Delaware studying visual communications. She is a photographer for UDress magazine, which is the University of Delaware’s student run fashion magazine.

Name: Jess Stevenson

Role: UDress Magazine Photographer

CollegeFashionista: When did you get started with photography?

Jess Stevenson: I got started with photography around my freshman year of high school. I used my iPhone to shoot pictures of flowers and landscapes and then edited the photos using apps and filters. When I would post them on social media, people told me that I “had an eye for photography.” Since then, I’ve upgraded to a professional DSLR and have been photographing events (weddings, engagements, senior portraits, etc.) and shooting for UDress Magazine and model portfolios, as well.

CF: What is the best part of being a photographer for UDress

JS: The best part about being a UDress photographer is getting to work with models, directors, editors and writers. I enjoy getting to work in a professional type of setting to gain experience for the future. I’m happy to have the opportunity as a freshman to be published, as well.

CF: What do you hope to do after college?

JS: After college, I hope to work for a fashion magazine of some sort, photographing for spreads and maybe some advertising. I love the idea of being involved in my two favorite subjects: style and photography.

CF: Can you describe your favorite shoot you have done thus far for UDress?

JS: My favorite shoot with UDress was probably for the fall 2014 issue, which took place in a fabulous, gourmet pizza shop. It was such a beautiful location and the models worked so well together. There were two girls who were dressed in the shot. They each had on a different skater skirt and booties. Their lace tops coordinated beautifully with each look! The shot was printed as a spread in the issue and it was an overall fun experience!
