Not to sound all dramatic, but in a matter of days, New York City has taken a turn for the worse—weather wise. Although, technically according to the calendar, summer does not begin until June 21, we college students have been enjoying the perks of summer; basking in the sun, not worrying about school and essential enjoying the amazing warm weather. Reality has finally hit us that we still need to be carrying around our umbrellas and sweaters for just a few more days before bringing out our swimsuits and high-waisted shorts. Despite the weather, I still had a job to do. I was determined to find a Fashionista/o who, in my eyes, was the epitome of what to wear when the April showers that brings May flowers are still here to stay.

As I was determined to find an inspiration with a Fashionista/o who faces the rainy weather in style, I spotted a funky pair of shoes walk pass me and I immediately thought “now, that must be a true sneaker head.” Along with his eye-catching pair of shoes, this Fashionisto sporting a color-blocked sweater and simple black skinny sweatpants. Being the queen of comfort, his outfit screamed “why bother trying when I know I look GOOD” and I had to snap a quick pic. Confidence radiated from him and his extra boost,he says, comes from his shoes.

Not only were his shoes incredibly stylish, but the brand Inkkas creates shoes that are handcrafted, cut, sewn and stitched by hand and also 100 percent vegan. This Fashionisto’s specific shoe that comes in styles for men and women,is called the Blackbird and was handcrafted by local artisans in Peru with authentic Peruvian textiles. The best part is that for every pair that is purchased, one tree is planted in the customer’s name. Isn’t that awesome?!

How To: Like this Fashionisto showed us, our everyday outfits can be extremely fashionable and ecofriendly if we seek the right sources and try hard enough. If helping others and fashion are equally your passions than research companies such as Inkkas that made a fashionable statement with a cause. Wouldn’t you love to look good and feel good knowing that someone else in need is benefiting from your purchase?
