ALL IN THE DETAILS: Rebel Without A Cause

As the saying goes “everything old is new again,” or “everything out of fashion comes back into style.” I have definitely learned these sayings to be true this semester while taking a History of Costume course. We can thank the Ancient Mesopotamians for fringe trimmings, the Ancient Egyptians for Gala gowns/skirts and even the Romans for our underwear! The list of correlations between styles and trends in today’s society goes on.

After spotting this Fashionisto on campus I thought to myself, “This look is iconic! Where have I seen this before?” Even though some of us weren’t alive at the time, every Fashionista and Fashionisto knows of the ’50s Hollywood actor James Dean and his iconic sense of style, most notably for his role as Jim Stark in Rebel Without a Cause. His red bomber jacket, jeans and work boots have lived on and are still considered trendy.

This Fashionisto was spot on in his reinterpretation of this 1950s iconic look. What makes this Fashionisto stand out on campus is his choice of jacket. Going to school in a cold climate area, we students are wearing jackets to class for a majority of the year, so why not make it a fashionable one? This Fashionisto’s Tommy Hilfiger bomber jacket provides just enough warmth on a mild winter day. A major key (*DJ Khaled voice*) to this outfit is simplicity. This Fashionisto’s decision to go with a plain long sleeve shirt under the jacket was the right move.

How To: Inspired to channel your inner James Dean? This look could not be easier to imitate. Choose a bomber jacket that suits your taste. Whether it is a bright color or neutral tone. Pair it with a solid T-shirt and light wash pair of jeans. To finish off the look, add a pair of sunglasses.
