ALL IN THE DETAILS: Metallic Is Not Dead

March 30th, 2016 at 2:00am

The frenzy of fashion month is over, leaving us to bask in four weeks worth of beautiful designs. Many of the trends featured in last year’s spring/summer 2016 collections reappeared in this years fall 2016 collections. With the ’70s revival in full swing, there’s no surprise metallic was one of those trends. Even before the influence of the ’70s on recent fashion, metallic tones have always been a classic way to brighten up or add edge to an outfit.

After a few long months of people having a case of the winter blues, it was refreshing to see this Fashionista breaking out of the rut. Her look gradually brings us out of the cool neutrals of winter to the warmer tones of spring. The gold metallic tank top becomes the focus, while also complimenting the other elements of her outfit. To contrast her timeless combination of black and gold, she adds some color with her maroon cardigan.

When it comes to wearing metallics, accessories can be kept minimal. Since this Fashionista’s top is a much more subtle metallic tone, her addition of accessories completes the look. The rose gold watch and matching necklace and bracelet highlight her top, and give extra detail to her outfit.

One of the beauties of metallic is its versatility because it goes with everything. It can quickly change an outfit from simple to a bit more playful.

How To: For those looking to be a bit more daring, pair a metallic skirt or trouser with a basic top or vice versa. If you’re not ready to commit to a bold metallic top or bottom yet, try building it into your outfit with accessories first. You can incorporate it with boots, a necklace or a purse.
