ALL IN THE DETAILS: Fringe With Benefits

Marilyn Monroe once said, “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.” I think this is the dumbest quote I’ve ever heard in my life. For one, I don’t understand why Marilyn Monroe is regarded as some sort of wise sage. She was an actress, not Gandhi. Secondly, a woman does not need the right pair of shoes to conquer the world. She could do it in a pair of Crocs. She could do it completely naked if she wanted!

There is absolutely no correlation between shoes and success. Unless, of course, you’re a marathon runner, in which case, you definitely need a good pair of sneakers. Don’t get me wrong, I would not cry if you handed me a pair of Louboutins. But I don’t need them to get ahead in life. However, it certainly wouldn’t hurt. So here’s a new quote for you: “Yo, I don’t need those shoes but they would make me look cuter as I go on to conquer the world.”

This Fashionista knows what I’m talking about! Her fringe gladiator sandals are serious business. Not for the faint of heart, these knee highs were probably the reason that the term “statement piece” was coined. These sandals are a really cool blend of ’70s shag and ancient Rome-chic (if that’s a thing). It’s an unlikely combination but somehow it works!

By keeping it simple in a black swing dress, her shoes remain the focal point of her outfit. But she doesn’t stop there! She adds a pop of color with her periwinkle purse which livens everything up for summer months.

How To: To nail this look, you’re going to need to remember balance. This much shoe can easily become overwhelming so be sure that the rest of your outfit is very basic. T-shirt dresses, denim shorts, or even a romper would pair well with these sandals. Try to resist any other flashy accessories.
