ALL IN THE DETAILS: Fresh in Fringe

May 8th, 2015 at 2:10am

I am always drawn to pieces that are looser and have oversized silhouettes, but I have never really ventured into the territory of unfinished hems. Today marks the day that I vow to step outside of my comfort zone and into an area filled with fringe! Unfinished hems work to create a fringe effect on clothing. The fringe emanates an earthy and bohemian look. Numerous fashion bloggers, including Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat, have embraced such a look for spring.

As Vancouver has been experiencing a pleasantly warm (rather than rainy) spring, I have witnessed more and more students ditching their bulky coats for light sweaters. This Fashionista effortlessly rocks her unique lightweight cardigan. Her long cardigan is both distinct and stylish because it contains fringe, slits and even some buttons.

She paired her sweater with a printed linen scarf. The details on the scarf match the sweater perfectly. The scarf also adds a pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit. Notably, the accessory also has unfinished ends and has an overall boho feel to it. This Fashionista completes her outfit with some silver jewelry and a pair of black booties. She also chose to wear some wool socks with lace detail at the top underneath her booties.

Next time you are trying to channel your free spirit through your style, try finding pieces that are both light and have fringe. Spring is the most ideal time to test out these pieces as it is not too hot to layer.

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t shy away from unfinished hems; embrace them. They help remove the overly structured look and suggest a more carefree, comfortable and bohemian vibe.”
