ALL IN THE DETAILS: Distressed

With the ever-so-popular trend of distressed clothing, there seems to be no end in sight. While some more daring ones rocked this trend during the colder seasons, most people gravitate towards it in the summer. Distressing one’s clothing has quickly become a fun DIY activity with some going all out with fully distressed tees and jeans, and others keeping it simple with a rip or two like this Fashionisto. His pairing of these DIY ripped black jeans with a plain grey sweatshirt and black Yeezy Boosts makes for a trendy yet wearable look. The perfect finishes to this look are the statement hat and classic watch. This appeals more to those who prefer to stay minimal in their ensemble while having a touch of detail here and there.

With distressed clothing becoming a favourite trend, any item of this nature is seen as a staple in one’s closet. Even if you’re not the biggest fan of the look, it creeps its way in if not in the form of jeans then perhaps a band T-shirt or distressed hat. This trend has even made its way into business casual clothing (although in this case the rips are kept to a minimum).

How To: This trend can be achieved in different ways depending on your willingness to take risks in your wardrobe. Save some money and experiment with some scissors and an old pair of jeans or your favourite denim jacket, but be sure to take it one step at a time (don’t get too exited) so as to avoid the “homeless” look. For those who aren’t into self experimentation, pre-distressed clothing is available at most clothing stores as everyone is buying into this trend. So find what works for you, roll with it and try something more extreme if you get bored!
