A Tomboy’s Guide to Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and it seems like every girl is infusing more pink in her wardrobe, creating intricate DIY cards, and dotting every “i” with a heart. Every girl, that is, except for tomboys.

Not even the most lovey-dovey of holidays can make a tomboy turn to tulle. Probably the only thing that girly-girls and tomboys agree on during Valentine’s Day is chocolate.

But just because your wardrobe is black, doesn’t mean your heart is. Even if you don’t rock a frock or the thought of a candlelight dinner makes you legitimately laugh out loud, doesn’t mean you and your significant other should treat the day like any other Tuesday.

So whether you prefer flannels over flowers or if you are just lucky enough to dating a chill lady, check out our guide to the ultimate tomboy-approved Valentine’s Day!

1—Plan an (active)ty. A romantic stroll through the park? How about skateboarding through campus instead. (Hand-in-hand, obviously.) (Photo via @erikaborst)

2—Ditch the glitz. Diamonds aren’t a tomboys best friend—pins are. Find a piece of flate that perfectly encompasses why your lady love is tops. The punnier the better. (Photo via @phenix_xox)

3—This is better than breakfast in bed. A tomboy’s idea of a romantic meal involves one thing: tacos. Splurge for the extra guacamole to let her know she’s worth it. (Photo via @gisele_milan)

4—Rom com 2.0. Before you buy tickets to “La La Land” or “50 Shades Darker,” think again. Take your real life Robin to see the “The Lego Batman Movie.” Besides, let’s be honest, Will Arnett is her version of Christian Gray anyway. (Photo via @peyton_roy)

5—The only heart decoration she likes… is the one made out of foam at the top of her almond milk latte. So swing by her local coffee shop to treat your tomboy to a cup of joe and the artistry of her favorite barista. (Photo via @withlovethelms)

6—The opposite of a LBD. Let’s be real—the only time a tomboy wears heels or a dress is for interviews and under duress. Infuse your go-to sneakers and jeans look with a little bit of holiday spirit to show that you aren’t completely dead inside. (Photo via @mixed.hues)

7—Heart YOU. At the end of the day, Valentine’s Day is about celebrating the people you love not just on the holiday, but the rest of the 364 days of the year as well. Create a celebration that is authentic, genuine, and shows that regardless of clichés and greeting card commercials, you genuinely heart the person for who they are. (Photo via @jamiewillettt)
