STYLE GURU STYLE: Powersuit

Alexander Wang is certainly known for drama. Recall his recent collaboration with H&M that caused mobbish lines and crashed the store’s website. His powerful, edgy ensembles and black color palette create an image that he’s known for as a designer and keeps customers wanting more, which is why he created an all-black collection for fall 2015. The pieces in the show drew inspiration from subcultures for whom black is the uniform like goths, Japanese Lolitas and heavy metal bands. The show included everything from structured jackets, quilted vests, cropped trousers and a willowy silk jacquard robe.

I decided to take note from Alexander Wang’s show and to go all black for a recent celebratory dinner on campus. I chose this H&M sleeveless jumpsuit and Forever 21 peep-toe mules to create my monochromatic look. I did not choose heavy styling like the dramatic wallet chains and Frankenstein boots from the show but kept it simple with straight hair and minimal accessories. Of course I need a purse with me at all times, so I chose my light blue, studded Danielle Nicole cross-body bag for the perfect functionality and pop of color.

This look became my version of the powersuit. Aside from the look being super comfortable and convenient, since it’s’ only one piece, I felt extremely confident and fun wearing it. In a room full of dresses and skirts, mixing it up with a jumpsuit is a bold but fun move to try!

Get My Look: 1. A bold, black jumpsuit. 2. Chunky peep-toe mules. 3. A bright, colorful crossbody bag.
