STYLE GURU STYLE: Playing With Blazers

Great ensembles require mindfulness when it comes to balance. Whether it is with regards to color, fit or silhouette, striking the right balance can make a world of difference. Blazers are great layering pieces that instantly toughen up a look while staying chic and sophisticated. Blazers were all the rage on the Emilio Pucci spring 2015 ready-to-wear runway, and served as the perfect layering piece when paired with softer, billowy silhouettes.

My outfit is the epitome of a spring ensemble, bright, fresh and colorful. The floral top and bright fuchsia shorts combination can definitely be described as saccharine sweet, especially when paired with sparkly stilettos, but I attempted to add a little flavor by wearing a navy blue blazer with subtle gold details. The tailored blazer is warm without being bulky, and the solid color doesn’t clash with the printed blouse.

For a modern take on power dressing, this fire engine red blazer with shoulder pads is a direct nod to 1980s. When worn over a little black dress, this jacket can take one straight from the boardroom to cocktail hour. For a slightly pared down take on the same trend, this pastel lace blazer is sweet and dainty, but it’s cropped nature lends it an air of edginess when worn over a feminine dress. To accomplish a more quintessentially old school glamour look, this satin trimmed luxe confection would steal the scene when worn with a show stopping jumpsuit.

Get My Look: 1. A light floral blouse. 2. “Look at me” shorts. 3. A structured blazer.
